Animal Flow

Animal Flow is a unique movement practice that draws inspiration from animal movements, bodyweight exercises, and elements of gymnastics, yoga, and parkour. Created by fitness educator Mike Fitch, Animal Flow emphasizes fluid, multi-planar movements that challenge strength, flexibility, coordination, and mobility.

Anyone can start practicing Animal Flow, regardless of age, fitness level, or prior experience with movement disciplines. It is suitable for beginners as well as advanced practitioners who are looking for a fun and dynamic way to improve overall fitness and movement skills.

Animal Flow entails a variety of movements inspired by the way animals move in nature. Some common movements include:

  1. Beast Crawl: Crawling on hands and feet with hips low to the ground, similar to a bear crawl.

  2. Ape Reach: Squatting down with hands on the ground, then reaching overhead and extending the hips upward, mimicking the movement of an ape swinging from tree to tree.

  3. Crab Reach: Sitting on the ground with hands and feet planted, lifting hips off the ground and reaching one arm overhead while maintaining stability through the core and shoulders.

  4. Scorpion Reach: Starting in a plank position, bringing one foot across the body and reaching toward the opposite hand while maintaining balance and control.

  5. Loaded Beast: Holding a static position similar to a tabletop with knees hovering just above the ground, engaging the core and stabilizing the shoulders.

  6. Side Kickthrough: Starting in a bear crawl position, kicking one leg through underneath the body and rotating the torso to open up the hips and shoulders.

These movements are often combined into fluid sequences or "flows," where practitioners transition smoothly from one movement to the next, creating a dynamic and challenging workout that targets multiple muscle groups and movement patterns.

Animal Flow classes typically involve a warm-up, skill practice, and guided flows led by a certified instructor. The practice can be adapted to suit individual fitness goals and preferences, whether it's improving mobility, building strength, enhancing coordination, or simply having fun while moving like an animal.

In addition to its physical benefits, Animal Flow also emphasizes mindfulness, breath awareness, and playful exploration of movement, fostering a deeper connection between mind and body. It offers a refreshing alternative to traditional gym workouts and fitness routines, inviting practitioners to unleash their inner animal and explore the full potential of human movement.

Areas it can help in: Increase flexibility, strengthen body, boost mood, home work out, body weight work out
